Introduction to SDGs at Matsue No. 2 Junior High School in Edogawa Ward

Edogawa Matsue No. 2 Junior High School is preparing for a field trip in October by learning the SDGs.

In the first lesson, the professors gave a brief overview of the SDGs, and in the second lesson, they used the SDGs “Sugoroku” (backgammon) to learn the SDGs.

And this was the third lesson. Two lecturers from Round Table Com, Inc. visited the school and gave a lecture “Why SDGs now? to provide information that answers serious questions and make the SDGs their own business.
“Japan and the SDGs,” “Companies and the SDGs,” “Regions and the SDGs,” “Schools and the SDGs” and “Me and the SDGs” were introduced as case studies.
In addition, at the end of the session, each of the students made a declaration of a possible project that could be done by 2030. The students were also asked to fill out the rubric chart to describe how they were doing at the time before this series of lessons began and after they have completed their studies in order to analyze their progress.

The lessons were conducted in three first year classes with the same content.

Students in all three classes seemed very interested in their own projects, referring to the case studies. In particular, “SDG Index and Dashboards Report” which is compiled by the Bertelsmann Foundation in Germany and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) was the center of attention. They were also referring to Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group’s “Junior SAFE Vol. 4” and the latest edition of the SDGs booklet by Asahi Shimbun.

Looking forward to seeing what talents they can develop in their upcoming classes until the end!
